TMACOG’s freight planning goal is to strengthen freight access to national and international trade markets to support economic development.
Freight moves on all modes: air, rail, road, pipeline, and water. Freight planning looks at the intermodal connections between these modes including seaport to train, train to depot, train to truck, and truck to last mile delivery strategy. Freight planning considers bulk goods such as iron ore or corn and soybeans, as well as high-value assemblies like televisions and phones.
Northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan are home to dozens of intermodal freight hubs - where trains are re-sorted and re-directed, where trains offload to trucks, and where value is added in warehouse and assembly facilities.
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission in Columbus will host the 2021 Ohio Conference on Freight. This is a valuable resource for state, national, and international shippers and planners. Watch this page for more information.
