Public Input: Regional Active Transportation Plan

Shape the future of walking and biking infrastructure by sharing your input as Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG) develops an active transportation plan for the western Lake Erie region.

TMACOG aims to improve and expand infrastructure for walking, biking, and other non-motorized travel to create safer, more accessible, and sustainable transportation options for people of all ages and abilities. By focusing on infrastructure like sidewalks, multiuse paths, bike lanes, and safer crosswalks, the plan will make it easier for people to choose alternatives to driving for short trips, helping reduce traffic congestion and pollution while promoting healthy lifestyles.

TMACOG is actively seeking public input to ensure the plan reflects community needs Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wood counties in Ohio, as well as Monroe County, Michigan. People who walk, bike, or use transit are invited to share their experiences and priorities now through October 31 to help shape a more connected and equitable transportation network.

People who live or work in the region can provide feedback by participating in public meetings and completing a survey available online and at participating public libraries. Input from people who use the active transportation network will help TMACOG identify gaps and convene partners to collaborate on solutions.

“We’re planning for a future when active transportation is efficient for everyone, supported by a safe and well-connected network that helps us create a healthier and more vibrant region,” said Sean Sammon, TMACOG transportation program manager. “We plan to accomplish this by enhancing the connectivity of our neighborhoods, parks, schools, and communities to build safer networks that accommodate everyone.”

TMACOG will host public meetings at the Mott Branch Library (1085 Dorr St., Toledo) to discuss the plan and gather input using interactive and printed maps, as well as digital and paper surveys.

Sessions are set for Tuesday, September 23 from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (Meeting Room A) and 4:30-7:30 p.m. (Meeting Rooms A and B).

• Bowling Green Farmers Market, 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 17
• Perrysburg Farmers Market, 3-8 p.m. Thursday, October 2
• Toledo Main Library (325 Michigan St.), 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 8 and 9:30 a.m.-noon Thursday, October 9.
• Sylvania Branch Library (6749 Monroe St.), 9:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday, October 15 and 1-3:30 p.m. Thursday, October 16.
