Traffic Data Intern
Are you a conscientious student with an interest in contributing to the realm of transportation planning? Consider joining the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments (TMACOG) in the summer of 2025 as a Traffic Data Intern. This internship entails working closely with a dedicated team and participating in crucial regional initiatives.
As a Traffic Data Intern, you will play a pivotal role in managing traffic and transportation data with a focus on physical field work.
- Traffic Counting Functions:
- Thoughtfully select count locations and establish a comprehensive schedule.
- Program and manage traffic counters efficiently.
- Engage in field operations, including setting up and retrieving counters.
- Download and review counts for completeness.
- Maintain a detailed log of equipment use and repairs.
- Assist local jurisdictions with traffic counts upon request.
- Data Functions:
- Demonstrate proficiency in MS Excel, emphasizing advanced skills in manipulating and querying tables.
- Accurately enter and manage data across different databases.
- Comfortably transfer data between various software packages.
- Identify functional classification, apply adjustment factors, and convert raw data to AADT.
- Possess a working knowledge of GIS/Mapping software, along with experience in digitizing.
- Aerial photo interpretation.
Additional Information:
The role involves a substantial 70% of fieldwork with 30% office work, requiring adaptability to various conditions. Fieldwork tasks include physically demanding activities such as pounding a two-inch nail into asphalt, working in busy streets/intersections, and various summertime climates. This internship starts in May and continues through the summer (full time) with potential part time opportunities in the fall.
You must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license (car access if needed), be legally authorized to work in the U.S., and have completed at least one year of undergraduate courses. Additionally, you will be subject to a background check at the time of the offer.
