Ohio’s Sunshine Laws: Free Training Session
TMACOG members are always looking for opportunities to learn more about how to serve their constituents. Throughout the year, TMACOG coordinates workshops and seminars on a variety of subjects from financial management of water utilities, to stormwater management, to economic development. To help us organize and market these opportunities, TMACOG has created TMACOG Tech. Look for the TMACOG Tech logo to identify opportunities for free or low-cost training sessions.
In March, TMACOG has organized a free training session for elected and appointed officials in northwest Ohio on the topic of Ohio’s Open Records and Open Meetings laws. The session is Friday, March 11, 9 a.m. to noon at Owens Community College, Audio/Visual Classroom Center. Sign-in and continental breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m., the session begins promptly at 9 a.m.
All public officers and/or their appropriate designees are required to attend a three-hour, certified public records training session approved by the Ohio Attorney General once per elected term. The March 11 class will satisfy that requirement and save local officials a trip to Columbus. Attendees will receive an overview of the public records act including definitions, obligations, liabilities, and exemptions.
Training is provided by the Ohio Attorney General’s office and online registration is through that office. Register here. Thank you to Owens Community College and First Energy for their generous support of this event. For any questions, contact Jennifer Allen at 419.241.9155 ext. 107.
