"Drains are for Rain"
In an ongoing effort to keep pollution out of storm drains, many local municipalities that are members of the TMACOG Stormwater Coalition have purchased materials and made plans to stencil storm drains sharing the message that drains are for rain – not for leaves, grass clippings, auto fluids, or any other waste.
Several jurisdictions are participating in the Toledo Area Global Youth Service Day Saturday, April 25. Stormwater Coalition members Bowling Green, Oregon, Sylvania, Toledo, Ottawa Hills, and Waterville will have teams of young people stenciling drains and putting hangers on doors in their communities. The stencils remind people that drains are for rain, and the door hangers explain in more detail that stormwater is not treated, and goes directly to local creeks and rivers. The Stormwater Coalition funded the purchase of supplies for these groups and for others who will have stencil projects in their communities.
