Primary Speakers Announced for 2009 Ohio Conference on Freight

Three keynote speakers have been confirmed for the 2009 Ohio Conference on Freight scheduled for Tuesday & Wednesday, September 22-23 in Toledo.

  • Jolene M. Molitoris, director of the Ohio Department of Transportation
Ms. Molitoris, appointed ODOT Director in January 2009, is leading the state’s historic investment in transportation infrastructure, bolstered by federal stimulus funds dedicated through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. She served as the department’s lead on the Ohio 21st Century Transportation Priorities Task Force, a first-of-its-kind “transportation conversation” to envision and champion the optimum multimodal system for Ohio’s future and recommend the resources and financial tools needed to build and sustain it.

Director Molitoris will share the changes being made at ODOT to meet the transportation needs of a 21st Century Ohio, including an update on the state’s investment of federal stimulus funds.
  • Collister (Terry) Johnson, Jr., administrator of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC)
Mr. Johnson leads the federal government corporation responsible for maintaining and operating the two U.S. Seaway locks located in Massena, N.Y., and vessel traffic control in areas of the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario, in collaboration with its Canadian partner, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation. The SLSDC is responsible for providing safe, efficient, reliable marine services on this critical binational waterway and marketing the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System.

Mr. Johnson will talk about the 50th anniversary of the Seaway, the current status and future, and economic importance of the Seaway to the US and Canada
  • Janet Kavinoky, director of transportation infrastructure in the Congressional and Public Affairs Division, U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Ms. Kavinoky serves as the Chamber’s senior lobbyist and policy expert on all transportation infrastructure issues. In addition, she is the executive director of the Americans for Transportation Mobility—a national business-labor-construction industry coalition that unifies transportation stakeholders to support increased federal investment in an interconnected, multimodal transportation system.

Ms. Kavinoky will address the U.S. Chamber’s Let’s Rebuild America initiative. This initiative educates, engages, and activates Chamber members to reframe infrastructure issues and advance solutions to ensure that the American transportation infrastructure and logistics system allows seamless transportation of goods and people.
